Roaring Tiger Stepwell, Rajasthan
Roaring Tiger Stepwell, Bundi, Rajasthan
Raring Tiger Stepwell is so named because a tiger slipped and fell into the well, none of the villagers could, or maybe even wanted to, rescue the tiger.
Bundi is a beautiful small town in Rajasthan famous for having over a hundred stepwells though many are in disrepair. We managed to visit five on a visit in February 2017, many are hard to find and of little interest to the local people.
Architectural marvels, they tend to fall into two types: an upside down stepped pyramid like this one or a long stepped trench leading down to a small tunnel accessible only at low water. The tunnel then leads to an adjacent circular well shaft.
