An old painted door from Tibet comprising panels of wood covered with cloth and painted with an elaborate dragon design.
We tend to this of dragons being from Chinese culture but they are also present in Tibetan art. They represent the Nagas, serpent dragons who live in the depths of lakes and seas and protect the the Dharma, the Buddha’s teachings.
This magnificent painting depicts one such dragon who looks straight at you with an expression of challenging wisdom.
Contained inside a contemporary black wooden frame.
